Letter home

Dearest Julia,
I miss you and the family a considerable amount. We just fought at Antietam. Many lives were lost.
We only got the slightest advantage because of Confederate miscommunication. I met president Lincoln today. He announced the emancipation proclamation and it is a good first step to free the slaves. He also came down because he relieved General McClellan of his duties. But I have great news. He announced me as the new general in chief of the army. Hopefully with me at the reigns we will start winning battles and I can home quite soon.
With  love,
Ulysses
